A poet Luiza Romão, winner of the Jabuti Award, launched her book “Também Guardamos Pedras Aqui” at the Slam da Guilhermina, a poetry battle held in a square near the Guilhermina Metro Station in São Paulo. The book, inspired by the Greek epic “Iliad,” will be promoted internationally, with translations into French and Spanish, and a tour planned in France, Argentina, Mexico, and Germany. Luiza was drawn to poetry through the slam movement, which aims to make poetry more engaging and accessible. She believes that the emphasis on Greek and Latin canon in Brazilian education and culture should be broadened to include other traditions and cosmologies, such as Andean and African traditions.
